Research interests

Biodiversity of Bacillus thuringiensis. Occurrence of these bacteria in the natural environments, especially in the intestinal canal of small free living animals, settled in natural environments of the north - estern Poland. Relations between enthomopathogenic properties of this bacterium, and phenotypic, as well as genotypic relatednes. Content of genes coding d-endotoxins of Bacillus thuringiensis strains from natural environments using PCR method. The characterisation of the bacilli based on pulsed - field gel electrophoresis of chromosomal DNA, plasmid profiling, whole-cell protein patterning, and biochemical characters determined with API tests.
The characteristics of staphylococci from wild small mammals: rodents and insectivores based on phenotypic properties (biochemical tests, SDS-PAGE, susceptibility to antimicrobial agents), and molecular methods (PFGE, plasmids analysis, length polymorphism in the 16S-23S rDNA intergenic spacer region, PCR of genes mediating resistance to some classes of antibiotics).
Physiological immunology. The costs of mounting of immune response in laboratory mice (Mus musculus) divergently selected for high and low basal rate of metabolism (BMR). Trade-offs between metabolic costs of immune response and other components of energy budget. Effect of thermal stress on immune response (A. Ksi±¿ek).
